Posted by AIS Watches on Apr 11th 2023

Watches are an essential part of a man’s wardrobe, but they can also be a powerful statement. From the classic timepieces that have been passed down through generations to modern masterpieces, watches have played a role in film and television for decades. In this article, we'll explore some of the most iconic luxury watches found on the big and small screen.

Dr. No- Rolex Submariner Ref. 6538

The Rolex Submariner Ref. 6538 is a classic watch that has been worn by Sean Connery in the film Dr. No. The stainless steel case measures 36mm, and it has an automatic movement with a date display at 3 o'clock. The watch comes with a black bezel with luminous markers, as well as white hands and hour markers on its dial face; this makes it easy to read even in dimly lit areas like casinos or casinos where there's low lighting conditions!

Top Gun- Porsche Design Orfina 7176s

The Rolex Submariner Ref. 6538 is a classic timepiece that has been worn by many celebrities over the years. It was first introduced in 1953 and became an instant favorite among pilots, divers and other professionals who required a watch that could withstand harsh conditions.

Tom Cruise’s character Maverick was a fighter pilot, so the watch he wears is a chronograph with a timing bezel that can be used to time flights as well as measure speed underwater or on land (hence its nickname "The Professional").

Apollo 13- Omega Speedmaster

During the filming of Apollo 13, Tom Hanks wore an Omega Speedmaster, accurately portraying astronaut Jim Lovell's mission. This watch was used during space missions from 1967 to 1972 and was designed specifically for use in space flight.

A Breitling Chrono Avenger is also featured in this movie as well as many other films, including Mission Impossible III and Pirates of Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011). The Breitling Chrono Avenger has been around since 1982 and has been seen on celebrities such as Tom Cruise and Angelina Jolie.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso is another iconic timepiece featured in Apollo 13 that dates back to 1931 when it was created by Jean-Marc Wiederrecht; however, this particular model wasn't available until 1936 due to delays caused by World War II!

Blood Diamond- Breitling Chrono Avenger

Leonardo DiCaprio played Danny Archer, a diamond smuggler in the Sierra Leone Civil War, in the movie Blood Diamond. He wore a 44mm titanium Breitling Chrono Avenger with a brown leather strap and black dial, which suited the movie's action-packed scenes. Although DiCaprio was a brand ambassador for Tag Heuer, the Breitling watch matched Archer's character as he navigated the dangerous conflict zones and battled warlords and his ex-boss, Colonel Coetzee, to deliver a pink diamond.

Casino Royale- Omega Seamaster Professional

The Omega Seamaster Professional is James Bond's go-to watch. The model that he wears in Casino Royale was the same one used in the film and it's a limited edition model, only 200 were made.

Argo- Rolex Deepsea Sea-Dweller

If you're a fan of the film Argo and its small but important role in the story, then you'll remember that one of the characters was wearing an Omega Seamaster Professional. This watch was designed by none other than James Bond himself, Sean Connery. The watch has since become an icon in its own right--so much so that it earned itself its own spot on our list!

Kingsman- Bremont Kingsman Special Editions

In the Kingsman movie franchise, special agents are dressed in the finest British attire, with the original Kingsman fronting as a high-class London tailor's shop. Director Matthew Vaughn sought out Bremont, a British watchmaker, to create timepieces for the leading men. Bremont developed three special-edition Kingsman watches, including a world timer worn by Colin Firth and Michael Caine. Although unpaid, Bremont was closely connected to the film, with cofounder Nick English making a guest appearance as a Kingsman agent. The film features scenes shot at Huntsman on Savile Row.

Spider-Man- Urwerk UR-110RG

Robert Downey Jr.'s collection of watches is a blend of unique timepieces. From the Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX3 Tourbillon GMT, Omega Speedmaster Moon Professional, Rolex GMT Master II, and Bell & Ross BR 01-94 Titanium Orange, the Urwerk UR-110RG that he wore as Iron Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming was his biggest blockbuster. Downey Jr. himself selected the watch to accompany Iron Man on his mission to fight evil, and his persistence led to him acquiring the watch for his on-set wardrobe even after the company initially turned down his inquiry.

The Urwerk UR-110RG was the perfect match for Tony Stark, the billionaire inventor turned superhero. It was made of lightweight titanium with an asymmetrical 18-karat rose-gold bezel, and it presented a unique way of telling time using a rotating cube and orbiting satellite instead of traditional hands and markers. Additionally, it has a "control" board indicating day and night, and an "oil change" indicator for servicing.

In May, Downey Jr. sold the watch at Phillips' Geneva Watch Auction: Seven for 150,000 CHF ($155,905) to benefit Manusodany, a nonprofit organization funding development projects in Haiti. It was a generous move for a watch aficionado and philanthropist like Downey Jr., a real-life superhero in his own right.
